UAlbany Falls to UMass in Home Opener

Gorillas Defeat Danes 14-8

On Tuesday March 5th, the University at Albany Men’s Lacrosse team hosted UMass in the Danes’ home opener. UAlbany entered the contest with a record of 1-2, most recently having lost to #3 Cornell 17-16. UMass came in with a 1-3 record, with their last game an OT loss to defending national champion Yale.

UMass scored first on a man-up situation, resulting from Albany being off-sides. The Minutemen/Gorillas never trailed, paced by hat tricks from Billy Philpott and Gabriel Procyk. Tom Meyers of UMass was 19-26 facing off, and Goalie Sean Sconone had a huge day in the cage with 16 saves and picking off some near crease passes.

Making his return after sitting out Saturday’s game against Cornell due to an NCAA rule violation, Tehoka Nanticoke led the Great Danes with 3G/1A. Albany Goalie Nate Siekierski stopped 14 UMass shots on the day.

Earlier today, Nanticoke was named to the Tewaaraton Award watch list. The Tewaaraton, the most prestigious recognition in college lacrosse, will be awarded on May 30th in Washington, DC. UAlbany greats Lyle and Miles Thompson shared the honor in 2014, while Lyle won it solo in 2015.

Next up for Albany , #7 Maryland comes to town this Saturday 9th, with the opening faceoff set for 1:00 PM. For ticket info, visit UALBANY TIX
