2018 Saratoga Girls Season Preview

Saratoga Springs High School Girls Lacrosse

NYSPHSAA Section 2 Class A, Suburban Council

2018 marks Elaine Anton Lotruglio’s third season as the varsity coach at Saratoga Springs High School.  Her previous experience includes coaching at the middle school and junior varsity levels.  A native of Long Island, Coach Lotruglio moved to Saratoga Springs seven years ago. She played Division I lacrosse at Hofstra University, where she served as Team Captain in 1989.  Additional experience includes a season at the University of London as an international student.  She is assisted by Elise Britt and Katie Hannan.

Coach Britt is a native of Saratoga Springs, and a 2010 graduate of Skidmore College where she played both Field Hockey and Lacrosse. While at Skidmore, she earned Collegiate All-American honors in Field Hockey. Her previous experience includes coaching at both the Varsity and JV levels at Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake and Queensbury High Schools. She is currently a Health Education teacher at Maple Avenue Middle School in Saratoga Springs City School District.

Coach Hannan is also a native of Saratoga Springs.  She played Lacrosse at LIU-CW Post as a goalkeeper, where she won two NCAA DII National Championships. She is currently an ESL/Special Education Teacher in the Fort Ann School District, where she also serves as a basketball coach.

The team graduated four seniors from the 2017 squad that went 14-4.  2018’s squad is comprised of 22 student-athletes – 7 Seniors, 7 Juniors, 8 Sophomores.  The Team Captains are Junior Sophia Burke, Senior Grace Purdy, and Senior Katie Silver.  Coach Lotruglio identified the team’s strengths as chemistry and camaraderie. She anticipates the team to play with creativity, the ability to anticipate teammates’ style of play, and ability to improvise on the field. A strong bench is also expected, where all players will be contributors.

Coach Lotruglio offered, “I expect all 22 student-athletes to make significant contributions in goals, assists, caused turnovers, ground balls and draw controls. Every player has a significant role and skill that she brings to the team. Senior-captains Sophia Burke, Grace Purdy, and Katie Silver bring outstanding skill, leadership, and guidance to the field. Standout players include Katie Wendell, Lindsey Frank, Ella Payer, Reilly Hogan, and Goalkeeper Abigail Searles.”
