2018 Greenwich Girls Lacrosse Season Preview

Greenwich Central School Girls Lacrosse

NYSPHSAA Section 2, Class D, Foothills Council

Nicole Dixson has been the varsity coach at Greenwich since the program’s inception in 2008. She started with the Greenwich lacrosse program in 2008 with the JV program for two years. Since the first varsity season in 2010 Greenwich, the smallest school in the Foothills, has made some great accomplishments including 41 wins.

Dixson is joined by assistant coach Lisa Ferrannini. Lisa coached last season with the Witches and has been critical to the advancement of the program. She previously coached at Hoosick Falls.

Last season with 14 seniors on the varsity team Greenwich upheld a winning record of 10-7. It was an exciting year for the Witches winning their first round of Sectionals for the first time ever. This effort was due in part to the great work of first and second team seniors: Olivia Barnes in goal, Hadley Vandewater at midfield, Grace Peck on attack and defensive players Jenny Steindl and Danielle O’Brien .

This year the Witches will be a rebuilding year with only four seniors on the team. Coach Dixson offered, “The team is young and full of new promise. Look to this team bringing fresh talent to the field in the 2018 season.”

In regard to the team’s strengths, Coach Dixson commented, “We are a cohesive group with a great team dynamic. Teamwork and commitment will help grow this team which graduated 14 seniors last year. With many new players on the field there will be a new energy that will set the stage for another competitive season.”

Players expected to be significant contributors in 2018 include:

  • Megan Steindl-Senior Center-Megan is consistent and smart on the field. She see the game situation and knows where to place the ball.
  • Hannah Dauenhauer-Senior Defender- with lots of experience of 4 years of lacrosse Hannah will be the anchor of this year’s defense.
  • Sophie Manera-Junior Defender- Sophie is explosive and quick on the field. She takes control of situations and is fearless on the field.
