From Schuylerville Youth Lacrosse:
Team Podkladek Is holding a Lacrosse Shoot Out on May 13th to benefit the Podkladek family. Fourteen 5th and 6th grade teams will be coming to Schuyler Park to help support a local lacrosse family. Mike Podkladek is a loving husband and best friend to his wife Beth and an amazing devoted father to his three children, Jordan, Callie and Braden.
Mike has always been involved in his children’s sports and activities. He would be seen volunteering for Softball, football, hockey and lacrosse. Yes, you may even have seen him dabbling in Stillwater’s Youth lacrosse program to help get the program off the ground and most recently doing the books for the varsity lacrosse games in Schuylerville, where his son Braden plays Goalie.
Mike was diagnosed with a brain tumor and needed surgery in early November of 2016. After surgery Mike was feeling great from his craniotomy, the tumor was removed and his symptoms were gone without any neurological side effects. He felt amazing and was able to back to all the things he loved.
Unfortunately, when the pathology results came back, the news was not good. The tumor was a grade 4 glioblastoma…. Cancer. This type of cancer is not curable. He has been fortunate enough to have been entered into a clinical trial in NYC at Sloan Kettering Hospital. Mike and Beth travel to the City every other Tuesday for treatment.
The Podkladek family is adjusting and learning how to cope with this diagnosis. 100% of any monies made during the Team Podkladek Lacrosse Shoot Out will be donated to help with Mike’s medical and traveling expenses. All ref fees will also be donated that day. In addition to the great lacrosse action on the field, the event will feature raffles, a 50/50, a fastest shot competition, and the Revolution Cafe/Ben & Jerry’s will be there supporting the family as well with a portion of their proceeds going directly to the family.
Thank you all for your support!
