2017 UAlbany Lacrosse Season Preview

The UAlbany Great Danes begin their 2017 season at Syracuse on Saturday February 18th.  Following scrimmages with Colgate and Princeton, UAlbany enters the game ranked #12 in the country in both the USILA Coaches (tied at #12 with Towson), and Inside Lacrosse media polls.  These rankings represent a one place move in each poll, having been ranked at 13 in each of the pre-season polls.  Syracuse is ranked #6 in each poll, following a season opening win over Siena on February 11, 2017.  The Great Danes and Orange met twice in 2016, with SU winning each by scores of 16-7 on Feb 21; and 11-9 in a first round NCAA tournament game on May 15.  Follow the game on Saturday beginning at 3:00 PM via stat tracker at LIVE STATS or watch via the Watch ESPN App.

Connor Fields

UAlbany Attackman Connor Fields and Defenseman Stone Sims  enter the season having been named 2017 Face-Off Preseason All-Americans.   Fields (second team Preseason All-American) was the was the sixth highest point scorer in the country in 2016 with 44 goals and 29 assists,for an average of 4.6 points per game.  Sims (third team Preseason All-American) was honored on the America East All-Conference First Team in 2016.  In 15 starts, he caused 16 turnovers, picked up 16 ground balls, and scored a goal.

UAlbany was unanimously predicted to finish first in the America East in the league’s 2017 pre-season poll. The

Danes will host six home contests, including games against UMass, UMass Lowell, and UMBC to be played on John Fallon Field; and games against Maryland, Yale, and Hartford scheduled to be played in Casey Stadium.   The top four

teams in the conference standings will qualify for the America East Men’s Lacrosse Championship, which will be held at tournament’s No. 1 seed. The semifinals take place on May 4 and the championship game on May 6, a game that will be nationally televised on ESPNU.
