Columbia Lacrosse – 2016 Season Preview

Following a one win season in 2015, Columbia High School Lacrosse Coach Bryan Lussier has honest and optimistic goals for 2016 – a .500 record, and a sectional victory.  Lussier, who has served as Head Coach since 2011, and Assistant Coach/Defensive Coordinator Will Morris will depend on a roster which includes several players who gained experience playing Varsity as underclassmen last season.  Among the Blue Devils that Lussier expects to play significant roles are:

  • Greg Gavitt- Senior Midfielder, four year varsity player,
  •  Matt Morris- Junior LSM/Close D, second year varsity player and Stony Brook commit,
  • Wyz Goodwin- Junior Midfielder transfer to Columbia,
  • John Hawkins- Sophomore Attack, second year varsity player.

In regards to the team’s schedule, Lussier commented that the addition of the former Big Ten schools to the Suburban Council results in playing league members only once during the regular season.  The Blue Devils’ first two games of the season feature match ups against non-league opponents Lasalle and South Glens Falls.  The schedule also sees Columbia visiting NYS Class A Champion Niskayuna on April 7th, and first year Varsity program Albany High School on May 3rd.
