Support the Daniel L. Barnes ’07 Memorial Scholarship at UAlbany

On February 2, 2016 UAlbany Men’s Head Lacrosse Coach Scott Marr, and retired Head Football Coach Bob Ford announced the establishment of the Daniel L. Barnes ’07 Memorial Scholarship.  In March of 2015, Dan Barnes passed away after a courageous battle with cancer.  A native of Kingston, New York, Dan graduated cum laude from the University at Albany in 2007 with a Bachelor’s degree in history, minoring in Spanish and political science. While at UAlbany, Dan was an accomplished two-sport athlete in football and men’s lacrosse, and beloved member of the Purple Family.

In their announcement, Coaches Ford and Marr noted that during Dan’s career at UAlbany, they were constantly reminded of what a special individual he was – embodying what it means to be a Great Dane: positive, determined, respectful, and tough.  His impact and influence continue to be felt in both programs.

To honor Dan’s legacy, and leave a lasting impact for future generations of UAlbany student-athletes, The Daniel L. Barnes ’07 Memorial Scholarship will provide scholarship support for a student athlete who demonstrates academic excellence and good sportsmanship, and is a member of the football or men’s lacrosse program.
