2016 Siena Season Preview

Siena Lacrosse fans – click the banner below to watch the MAAC Lacrosse pre-season awards show which originally aired on MAAC.TV on December 9, 2015 beginning at 7:00 PM.  The MAAC pre-season coaches poll sees the Saints tied with Detroit for a fourth place league ranking .

2015 saw the Siena men finish with a a final record of 5-9, including a 2-4 mark in the MAAC, missing out on post-season play.  Siena graduated some key players, including Attackman Richie Hurley who earned All-MAAC first team honors, and mid-Fielders Nate Barry and Connor Prunty who were named to the All-MAAC second team.  Also gone is faceoff specialist Casey Dowd who ended his stellar career by moving into a tie for fifth in NCAA Division I history with 472 career groundballs.  His 772 career faceoff wins are sixth most in NCAA history.  Among returning players, Tim Cousin and Chris Robertson were recognized as members of the league’s 2015 all-rookie team.

Seniors Matt Bellucci, Tommy Cordts and Kevin Cousin have been named as team captains for the 2016 season. Some important 2016 matchups include the season opener against Syracuse at the Carrier Dome on February 13, a trip to Atlanta to play fellow New York team Hobart on February 20 as part of the triple header Cobb County Classic, 2015 MAAC champion Marist visiting Loudonville on Saturday April 9, 2016, and a trip across town to play Ualbany on April 26, 2016.

The 2016 MAAC mens’ lacrosse championship will be hosted by the league’s highest seeded team on May 4-7, 2016.
